Co-Hosts
Wendy Duncan

Growing up on the outskirts of our nation’s capital in Fairfax, Virginia, Wendy was always an inquisitive child persistently asking questions and seeking answers about history, world events and politics. Her love of learning grew hand in hand with her love of books but it wasn’t until she suffered from insomnia as a teen that she realized the significant benefits of reading. In addition to providing an outlet for discovery and imagination, reading helped Wendy navigate through six months of sleepless nights and became a routine practice to relax her mind and body.

She continued her quest for knowledge while obtaining a Baccalaureate of Arts degree in History and Political Science at Davis & Elkins College. During school her interests grew and expanded, focusing on English literature, religion, and science and nature.

Her casual reading includes the supernatural, romance, thrillers, action/adventure and most recently self development. After eighteen years in insurance, she left the industry to write and publish a book on leadership; primarily focusing on what employees want and need from their managers. “Lead Employees to Success Not Out the Door” focuses on basic ways to create a successful and productive work environment while boosting morale. You can follow her on twitter at betterbossbooks where she shares leadership quotes, articles and books that are beneficial to improving relationships in the workplace.

Ready to embrace all genres of books and publications, she looks forward to promoting
literacy, encouraging lively discussions and sharing her love of reading.

Michael Scott

The president of Career Velocity, LLC, a Denver based career coaching firm that assists transitioning professionals in aligning meaningful work with economic success.

From a very early age, Michael Scott has had an insatiable love for books and the ideas and teachings they offer. This passion was fostered by his parents -- one a university administrator and the other a secondary school reading specialist -- who believed in the value of critical thinking and knowledge.

Throughout his school years, Michael digested a variety of topics: American History, from the early colonial settlements and U.S. presidents to science- related topics, with a specific interest in the brain and how it functions.

While obtaining his degree in sociology from The Ohio State University, Michael delved into new genres such as philosophy, social theory, anthropology, astronomy, and religion. Upon graduation, he focused on leadership, management and psychology related subjects to support his development as a human resources professional.

In 1995, amid a number of major life transitions, Michael stumbled upon a book that would forever change his life. The book, Sacred Hoops: Spiritual Secrets of a Hardwood Warrior by former NBA player and prolific basketball coach, Phil Jackson, shook Michael’s value system to the core. Michael became immersed in Jackson’s life journey, which explored the intersection between ones vocation and ones spirituality. From this book, Michael learned to acknowledge and accept his own unorthodox views of life in terms of the sacred quest for enlightenment.

Today, Michael is a successful workforce futurist, speaker and advisor dedicated to helping individuals and organizations bridge the gap between meaningful work and economic success. He is committed to cultivating a world where books are a catalyst for life exploration, critical thinking and the discovery of fresh ideas that spur social change and make the world a better place.
